And Then There Was One...
Rue McClanahan, born Eddi-Rue McClanahan in Healdton, OK, died at 1 a.m. this morning of a stroke. Her best known role--and my favorite--was that of Southern Belle Blanche Devereaux on the legendary Golden Girls.
Everyone who knows me well understands how much I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Golden Girls. I have the entire collection but I still watch it on tv. There will never be another show like it or as good, IMHO.
I don't have much else to say--sigh. We'll miss you, Blanche/Rue. RIP.
Here's one my favorite episodes where Blanche steals the show:

Aw! I used to watch this and EMPTY NEST, every saturday night when I was younger. :( R.I.P. Rue!
:(
Too many people dying the last few days (Dennis Hopper, Gary Coleman, etc)... Sigh. RIP Rue.

Sorry to hear that.
RIP Rue. I love the golden girls too.
At least Blanche is immortalised on the small screen.
Rest in peace, Rue! I used to watch Golden Girls as a kid with my grandma. Sad!
Man I used to _love_ Empty Nest. Such a great show.
Aww... That's very sad. What an awesome show! I guess Betty is all alone now. :(
Good show, great actors.
One of my favorite episodes with Rue was the one in which Blanche talks about getting "the curse" as a teenager. :)
Sad to see her go.
Kara,
I liked Empty Nest too, but nothing replaced THE GOLDEN GIRLS. :-)
Jess,
Lots of celebs seem to die around the same time. Creepy.
Charles,
Me too. :-/
Naija,
She's just well known all over. :-D
Caroline,
My whole family watched them. :-)
Vert,
Golden Girls was the best. :-P``
Robin,
Betty seems to be doing well. And she's the oldest. Amazing. :-D
Raine,
I remember that one too. :-D
I didn't get into The Golden Girls until years after it'd gone into syndication. What a brilliant show! No wonder it was so popular. Blanche will certainly be missed...as will Sophia & her Pussycat.
i always enjoyed the gg, sad most are gone! :(
Lana,
I watched it while it was on the air and in syndication. :-D It is truly a great show.
Tony,
It is sad. :-/
I am 21 yrs old but I've been watching the Golden Girls since I was 16. I LOVE the Golden Girls! None of my friends can appreciate the beauty of this show--but that's their loss. They'd rather watch crap-o-la like "The Hills" or "Bad Girls Club."
*rolls eyes*
Golden Girls was a great show! The ORIGINAL "Sex and the City" lol!
RIP Rue!
