Oh, and the prize? It's something awesome! It's a brand new signed copy of Faith Hunter's SKINWALKER. And Faith agreed to add a goodie or two to my prize for the lucky winner! :-D Here's a summary copied from Faith's website:
Jane Yellowrock is the last of her kind—a skinwalker of Cherokee descent who can turn into any creature she desires and hunts vampires for a living. Back from hiatus, she’s hired by Katherine Fontaneau, one of the oldest vampires in New Orleans and the madam of Katies’s Ladies, to hunt a powerful rogue vampire who’s killing other vamps.
Amidst a bordello full of real “ladies of the night,” and a hot Cajun biker with a panther tattoo who stirs her carnal desire, Jane must stay focused and complete her mission—or else the next skin she’ll need to save just may be her own…
P.S. The contest is open to everyone, regular commenters and lurkers alike, foreign and domestic. :-D
*Remember the contest ends 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, December 9, 2009. Winners will be announced on Thursday, December 10, 2009

I pretty much like any fantasy, but urban fantasy is cool because it's very easy to visualize the story, and it can pack more of a punch because "it feels like it really could happen...".
This is totally lazy of me, but I sometimes don't feel like visualizing an entirely different world or universe. Too much effort after a day at work.
Considering it's got bikes and violence I would probably enjoy it. However, I've only read a couple of Urban fantasies by Laurell Hamilton and didn't care much for those. I'd like to read a good urban fantasy, though, one that wasn't all kinky sex but had some action in it.
If it's a good urban fantasy, I like the suspense, the underlying danger, the worldbuilding, and the romance made more passionate by the dicey circumstances.
Love the energy of an urban fantasy.
Lovely. To answer the question: I love urban fantasy, because it allows a creative freedom to incorporate the myths and legends into the potent modern urban and technologically advanced society and basically achieve so many other story types. :)
I like urban fantasy because it revitalizes myth and legends.
(Will link tomorrow)
I love Urban Fiction because it continues the tradition started by Delaney, Schyler, Butler, Barnes, and Due. They all dealt with the supernatural or space and such but Urban Fantasy deals with all of that in a modern reality that includes and centers people of color.
I love urban fantasy because of all the danger, suspension, the romance and the world in which the story takes place in. Urban fantasy lets the author create their own world and the readers are then brought into the world and this makes the story more interesting. Urban fantasy lets the author take myths and legends and put them together in modern times with our technology and our society and it also gives us a sense of exactly how much we can stretch our imaginations. In doing this readers are introduced to new things and I love things like that. I also love urban fantasy because (if it is a good book) of all of the characters and the plots. Authors create so much suspense and have so many surprises and I love finding out new things about the characters and the plot!

love urban fantasy because while I'm reading it- for a little while_ I can believe it's real, if the author does a good enough job creating their universe. From Charles DeLint on- I want to live in a fantasy world. Urban fantasy gets me there.
I just discovered this series in the Strange Brew anthology. Jane rocks! I love urban fantasy for so many reasons, but the mix or monsters in a modern world is great.
I'm a follower and I posted this on the Contests & Giveaways section on my sidebar

I love urban fantasy because it can be a cross between science fiction and fantasy that has the best elements of each.
I like a modern world, I like to believe that the story could happen. I also like the humour of much modern urban fantasy.
Hello, my dear Demon Hunter!!
I am not too much of a fantasy reader. Yes, I will read the occasional swords and dagger type story, I love Faerie's and many other things that go along with the stories.
However, I tend to stick mostly to Horror.
What is so great with the Dark/Urban fantasies is that it combines both kind of genres in the same book, you get a little bit of blood and guts and a little bit of the faerie side of things as well.
But what I like the most about the urban fantasies I have read is that it portrays most woman as kick ass combat style girls. Yes, I am biased being a women, but it has been too long where women where always the ones being rescued.
I like that they can rescue themselves. I also like the thought of there still being magic in the world.
It doesn't matter if the common folk know about the magic or not. There is something mysterious about the fact of what could be. It adds a little spice to life which is always good.
Kay, I could go on forever about this. Thanks for posting the question! It's a doozy and a great one to inspire other conversations!
Take care!
Ugh, I hope this goes through! Sorry if it double-posts.
I love urban fantasy because it gives you a chance to imagine our world with fantastic elements. I've always been drawn to magic and magical creatures.
I guess that's part of why I tend to write urban fantasy more than anything else, myself. ;D
Why do I like urban fantasy? I'd say because it tends to have more contemporary and quippy dialogue--I am not a fan of long blocks of description and reflection. And…lets' see... I guess because UF often incorporates romance without it having to be the total focus, and most importantly--it doesn't require a HEA ending. : )
I read a lot of different styles of romance and fantasy- Urban isn't bad but I am a HEA girl!!!!
I'm rather new to urban fantasy so I haven't formed any strong opinions yet. I read just about anything. I would love to read this book.
I just love the mix of fantasy with the real world. I'm sure I wouldn't want to live in a society full of vampires, werewolves, and monsters in general, but it makes for fun reading!
love me those kick-ass babes who get things done, and the critters they associate with ;) lol
of course, sax and violins are neat too, but not at the same time!
since i dunno how to link, i'll just post your contest on my blog...
Cool cover! I think my 12 year old boy would be interested, based on the cover!
;-)
(Haahaha! I just read Charles' comment--bikes and violence. See, I was right about the male angle!! ahahaha!)
I have yet to witness any Urban Fanstasy. *sad face*
Good luck to all the other contestants, though.
Cool prize! I read that book, and it is wonderful. Can't wait for the second book to be released.
I like urban fantasy in part because it's dark and gritty, in part because it has kick butt protagonists (bonus if they're grrrls), and mostly because they almost feel possible (okay, more possible than fairytale landscapes.)
I love all fantasy - urban, paranormal, historical, futuristic. It's all about possibilities, potential and the imaginative answers to "What If". I find it entertaining and thought-provoking, and it is good to know I'm not the only grownup around who still believes in a little "magic".
Oh yeah - and I blogged about this contest! http://tatianacaldwell.com/archives/1543
*blows a kiss at everyone*
I like anything well-written that pulls me in. With the urban fantasy I've enjoyed, most often it's a combination of really witty dialogue and memorable characters with great action. Not as much about the world building as straight fantasy, which makes it a little more fast moving.
THE CONTEST IS NOW OVER!! Thanks to everyone who entered. The winner will be drawn at random by my evil minion. :-D Winners will be announced tomorrow.
